I know there's a general Zelda thread - this is specifically for Skyward Sword.

Nintendo's been so tight-lipped about this game that there's really not much to talk about yet.

How about the fact that it's only one of two Wii games coming this year?

It's one of the only two games announced for this year. The Wii scene is a lot bigger than that.

It's... almost too late. The Wii U is about to debut next year. It almost seems like it would have been better for them to revamp everything for the Wii U, make it a release title and so on.

But, whatever. I guess the Wii does need its own genuine Zelda title.

It looks beautiful and like I've said before, Zelda looks heavenly. Not in some waifu-type thing or something, but she looks like she'll be an actual character. She's always seem so... flat as a character, only ever having one or two dramatic moments in past games. Hopefully they change that, since it looks like they're combining her general character with Ilia's from Twilight Princess.

No idea what to think about this game...Zelda games always look great in trailers...

I guess there's a bit too little enemies. Most rooms look like theres only one enemy at a time.

On the other hand, I'm really loving the design of the antagonist. He looks cooler and cooler the more I see him.

I wonder will horse riding be replaced by...flying duck riding.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (9)The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (10)I kind of agree with you on that last part. I mean the only games where Zelda had an interesting character were Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks IMO.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (11)I'm pretty sure that the Giant Duck thing is this game's Epona.

E3 had playable demos where one of the three games was learning how to ride the bird. Since it's up there with "learning how to play with Motion Plus," it's probably going to be really important. And one developer seemed very interested in having a flying Zelda game when his kid suggested it, so...

One thing that bugs me about Skyward Sword, which isn't a problem inherent with the game itself, but the fact that people keep playing it like it's just another Zelda game. Specifically, they run around with the Wiimote held out in front of them like a regular controller, which makes Link look like he's a kid running with scissors. It's awkward to watch. And people keep going into battles swinging wildly and not strategically. I can only imagine how many game review sites are going to say "the fighting system is so broken" because they don't understand how to actually fight.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (17)The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (18)The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (19) Thank you for vocalizing that, that's been bugging me too. Even Nintendo reps playing their own game seem to do that, aside from one exception — I think it was Kotaku's intern. During the demoed boss fight with Ghirahim, I think he actually held the Wiimote such that Link was rearing his sword behind his back, which looked really cool when he charged at Ghirahim.

In any case, I actually feel like the game's looking better and better with each trailer that's released. Can't get enough of the backwards Zelda's Lullaby either. My biggest hope for the game is that it doesn't feel quite so formulaic — I loved Twilight Princess, it's still one of my favorite Zeldas, but it's hard to deny it went Strictly Formula. This game does seem like it'll spice things up if just because of being able to fly.

Actually, there was flying in Twilight Princess as well...just restricted to a minigame.

You could fly in Ocarina of Time, too... just for two sequences, though.

I really like those details. Very much! I don't think any of those are too spoiler heavy, really, but I'll be on the safe side.

At least it's confirmed that Ganon won't be around. I especially like that they're trying to make a villain opposite of him, too. Also, it sounds like the "island" concept of Wind Waker is making a comeback, which is much appreciated.

Highlights are...the birds are used for travelling, Ganon will not be appearing, and we have a harp instead of an ocarina...

The rest of the information aren't very useful.

What do they mean by "the opposite of Ganondorf"?

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (31)The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (32)Assumption detected. Proceed with caution. (I don't care, I'm not copying my response in the other thread)

Also, I wonder if Ganon were the exact words mentioned and Ganondorf was not mentioned at all. Knowing them, they'd probably troll us and put Ganondorf behind it all. Yes, they're different (Ganon is the monster, Ganondorf is the human(ish?)) but by this point I don't think anyone cares anymore.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (34)The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (35)

Nintendo Power: I’ve also been wondering about this Lord Ghirahim. Who is he, and why is he so creepy?

Aounuma:Thinking about Ganon, the prototypical villain in the Legend of Zelda series–he’s a very masculine, powerful, evil character that anyone can look at and realize is your archenemy in the game. This time around, I thought that if we featured a character similar in presentation to Ganon, it really wouldn’t make that much of a difference and that new character wouldn’t have much impact. I wanted to make to make a character that contrasted what people think about Ganon–someone who is a little bit mysterious and kind of makes people think, “well, I don’t really know what to make of this somewhat terrifying character.” That was sort of my goal in making a character like Ghirahm, and that’s basically why I did that.

NP:Is he related to Vaati from The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap and The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures? He’s also very white and has similar eye makeup.

Aounuma: Well, the director on the project this time around is Mr. Fujibayashi, who also worked on Minish Cap. Perhaps there’s something about Mr. Fujibayashi’s sensibilities in regards to design that might have influenced both characters. But beyond that, I don’t think so.

NP: Ghirahim also reminds me a lot of David Bowie.

Aounuma:[laughs] I can certainly see that. One of the things that relates to what I said about contrasting Ganon is that he does have a sort of unisex-like, genderless feel to him. I can certainly see the resemblance there.

Girahim looks awesome....for a Zelda character...hoping he makes lots of appearances.

I'm still skeptical about getting the game though. But if theres nothing else to buy, I have no choice but to get this game....

Well, I honestly doubt we'll be seeing Ganon again in another Zelda game, since he's been Killed Off for Real in pretty much every possible timeline ever.

It'll be nice to see some new blood in the franchise, though.

I do like that they seem to have brightened up the aesthetic a bit since Twilight Princess. Zelda is supposed to be an adventure, not a gritty shooter.
